Renewing a NYC Security Contract Before Local Law 61 Changes

Align scope, pricing, reporting, and change procedures before signing the next term.

Use this guide alongside Guardian’s Local Law 61 security guard compliance page to connect the research to your property’s staffing plan.

Review the scope before the price

Check post duties, coverage hours, patrol frequency, supervision, and response expectations. Remove ambiguity about what the vendor must deliver. This gives both sides a common basis for evaluating price adjustments and staffing proposals.

Explain how future updates are handled

Identify who monitors official schedules, when revised pricing is submitted, and how approved adjustments are documented. Avoid a clause that refers only to “compliance costs” without explaining the method. The agreement should allow decision-makers to understand what changed.

Keep personnel transitions visible

Discuss relief assignments, staffing substitutions, qualifications, and relevant facility service information. Agree how operational records and open issues move between vendors. A transition plan should protect continuity of coverage and make responsibilities clear.

Match reporting to the assignment

Specify the activity reports, incident notifications, supervisory reviews, and client summaries expected. Clarify which records support the client relationship and which remain confidential employer records. More paperwork is useful only when it helps someone verify or improve the operation.

Have the legal terms reviewed

Operational planning does not resolve every question about exclusions, agreements, or worker rights. Provide the full proposed contract and relevant older agreements to qualified counsel. Keep the final review result with the approved scope and budget so the team can apply it consistently.
